This past week my family has touched base with the past. I am referring to my grandparents. They immigrated from Russia in 1926. It was an interesting time in Canada for sure. I had assumed that they did not have any help getting to the ship, the train, the homestead. But I was so wrong. People in the church prepared the road ahead of them. Their sponsors probably did not know them. But they wanted to help them leave the old country behind. The sponsors knew of their pain of losing 4 babies, as well as the orchard that took years and generations to grow. They were fortunate to do so as the Stalin reign of Russia continue to be buried in blood.
The Moravian Brethren have greatly influenced the Canadian psyche. The generous, independent Canadian has a lot to thank these pioneers for.
