I forgot to add some of the music to the songs in my previous post. One of the biggest groups in Canada that is promoting folksongs comes out of Newfoundland. They are the Great Big Sea. My kids love their tunes for the most part. Donkey riding, iIs the b'y, and ,Lukey's Boat have suffered a revival in Canada If you watch the videos you will see that Donkey riding is a well known song in Canada, even though most of don't know what it really meant.
