My husband has made our basic bed frames. Nothing fancy really.
My bed is about 30" off the ground. So there is room for storage underneath. I have yet to make a curtain for the "messy" boxes underneath. The height is so right for many things in a married couple's bedroom. I no longer have that sore lower back. As getting my leg up stretches out my back.
He has also made a bed for my son. He has totes under his bed as well. Nothing fancy but he made it. He has shown my children that you do not need to buy everything.It is not as high of course.
We have also turned a dresser into a TV stand a few times. Dressers are great hiding places for CD's, DVDs, computer games etc.
